90 Years & Still Growing: 1964 E&MJ Ad Showcases Lost Hills Mine
Brian Milne2022-06-08T11:04:54-07:00This Clark Equipment ad from Engineering and Mining Journal in November 1964 highlights Holloway’s Lost Hills Mine with a photo of a Michigan Tractor Scraper that scraped 1 million tons of gypsum between 1959 and 1964. Since 1932, Holloway has been the leading supplier of soil amendments to the south Valley, scraping, delivering and spreading more gypsum than any other supplier. Today, as part of an occasional series entitled "90 Years & Still Growing ..." highlighting Holloway and California ag history, we look back at our founder and celebrate the early days of H.M. To combat the water infiltration, compaction and sodium and calcium issues we oftentimes see this time of year, we recommend row and field crop growers combat harsh soil conditions with a quick gypsum application that helps improve irrigation water infiltration for the conditions described above. Holloway Celebrates its 90th Anniversary

Founded in 1932, Holloway will commemorate its 90th anniversary with a customer appreciation event this week, an employee appreciation event later this summer, along with a host of 90th campaigns, giveaways and events that pay tribute to 90 years of business in the agriculture, mining, environmental and logistics industries.
Mid-Season Update: Subjective Almond Forecast Down 4% from 2021

Holloway CEO Brian Maxted and Director of Agronomy Steve Lenander assessing a local almond orchard recently. As Holloway’s agronomy team noted during orchard visits over the past week, almond trees in a number of Kern County customer orchards are looking strong despite frost and drought concerns this season. How Spreader Technology has Evolved in Our 90 Years

Back in the 1930s, 40s and 50s, Holloway spread gypsum and other soil amendments with pickup trucks that were outfitted with spreading mechanisms on the beds.

Why It’s Critical to Sample Irrigation Water Early in the Season

Early-season water sampling by the Holloway Agronomy Team in recent years has shown compromised water sources in multiple counties, both from wells and district sources, due to prolonged drought, buildup and aging wells.
